Brief Summary of Purpose :
The Desktop Support Engineer is responsible for establishing, implementing and enforcing end user device standards and policies for Windows, MAC and virtual environments. Tasks include endpoint patch management, package deployment, desktop imaging, and level III problem solving for IT Service Desk. Also responsible for corporate security systems which manage end point devices such as asset tracking, encryption, and malware detection applications. This position requires a highly motivated self-starter with above average customer service and desktop engineering skills who takes ownership of both projects and day to day responsibilities.
Develop, implement, and maintain computer images in all environments. Test, evaluate, and package software and applications for computer distribution. Responsible for successful deployment and upgrades of desktop images globally. Responsible for maintaining the tools used for deploying those images on different software, hardware and virtual platforms (desktop, laptop, workstations, Microsoft Windows and Mac OS, etc.).
Develop, implement, and maintain firm standards for desktop configurations, application delivery and desktop security. Conduct reviews to ensure compliance to standards. Research tools and processes to identify usage and capacity troubles as they develop and assist in developing long-range plans to address problems.
Define and execute a continuous-improvement strategy for upgrading and supporting workstation-based operating systems as well as standardly deployed applications and services such as Adobe, Java, and endpoint protection/security software.
Evaluate and recommend laptop and desktop hardware platforms for use by Fallon Health personnel.
Provide technical direction to the Service Desk team to solve problems that require an increased level of troubleshooting discipline, technology acumen, and creativity.
Write and maintain system documentation, including technical specifications, procedures, and definitions for the technical standards.
Participate on projects which deliver new and upgraded desktop support services. Perform feasibility and risks reviews, conduct beta testing and oversee pilot testing. Work with other infrastructure and security teams to ensure that all components work together to meet objectives and performance goals as defined in the requirements.
Provide expert consultation to less experienced team members in support of enterprise systems.
Support management and end users throughout the enterprise in support of both routine and strategic initiatives.
Bachelor’s degree in related field of study. Technical certificate, education or work experience may be substituted in lieu of education as determined by Management.
Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE) preferred but not required.
Minimum 5-8 years of IT experience as a Desktop Support Technician with proven experience with end user device management and troubleshooting.
Must be proficient with Microsoft technologies including Windows 10 and SCCM and demonstrate continuous learning activities in an effort to stay current in IT technologies.
