Brief Summary of Purpose:

Responsible for managing the complete life cycle of multiple, complex, large strategic projects identified as priorities within FCHP. This includes defining Business objectives, vision, success criteria and measurement, budget and/or ROI analysis, scope, developing an implementation plan and project management throughout the project. This position works closely with steering committees and top management throughout project life cycle. This also includes standard and thorough documentation of these processes, excellent communication with business owners and other constituents. The Principal Project Manager acts as a other project managers ensuring their success in managing less complex projects.


  • Perform project management work on complex, multifaceted projects from inception to completion including the management and coordination of projects that require a global, strategic understanding of company policies, standards, and system

  • Lead project management activities (defining scheduling, budget, risk, change, opportunity and resource management activities) for the most complex projects or programs.

  • Lead the technical review of system design and documentation. Designs continuous improvement opportunities.

  • Establish and oversee objectives and approach for large scale projects, which could include simultaneous large scale, strategic projects.

  • Actively manage multi-discipline teams including internal and external resources to define and achieve project performance goals, schedule and budget performance

  • Performs preliminary scoping to determine assumptions and effort estimates or may be part of scoping team.

  • Develop full-scale project plans including project scope, accurate and reliable cost estimates, goals and deliverables, and effectively communicates project expectations to management, end users and stakeholders in a timely and clear manner.

  • Prepare budget proposals and recommends subsequent budget changes to meet changing requirements, where necessary.

  • Plan and schedule project timelines and milestones using formal processes and appropriate tools, such as project management software.

  • Track project progress, milestones and deliverables to ensure deadlines are met appropriately. Assess project issues and identifies solutions to meet project goals.

  • Proactively manage changes in project scope, identifies potential crises and develop contingency plans.

  • Define metrics and monitor progress and project progress on large scale, cross-functional projects. Report progress to business owner(s)/steering committees.

  • Ensure projects are consistent with project management strategy/policies and in accordance with federal, state and local regulations.



BA/BS in Business, MIS, or equivalent


PMP or PM Masters preferred


  • Experienced in the use of Rational Unified Process, Use Cases, UML, Project Development Life Cycle.

  • Requires a minimum of 10 years of Project Management experience

  • Healthcare experience preferred.

  • Superior interpersonal skills and ability to communicate and present effectively, build relationships and consult with a range of internal and external stakeholders and negotiate for resources.

  • High level conceptual and analytical skills and business acumen.

  • Advanced knowledge of Project Management Methodology.

  • Advanced knowledge of system design and development.

  • Advanced knowledge of MS Project, Excel, Visio, and all MS Office applications.

  • Ability to handle multiple projects.
